7/3/10 - Colt Jags v Taverham Despite wall to wall blue sky the weekly 'is it on ??' question raised its head once more. Fortunately the answer was yes with the kick off put back to 11am to give the sun some time to get to work on the frozen pitch. We took a slightly altered squad of 8 with Harry coming back in. We started out with a defensive look with Alex holding the midfield behind the trio of Harry, Joe and Tom. Rico and Ethan started in defence with CJ getting his first start in goal for Taverham in a league match. We were under pressure from the off with some of the team looking a shade below par. Colt Jags had a couple of good early chances and CJ worked well to close down where needed. Harry and Tom were working hard down the wings, however both struggled to beat their markers. 5 mins before h/t Ben replaced Harry with Joe reverting to his usual wide right berth and Ben sitting in the middle. This lifted us and we had a couple of breaks with Joe, Ben and Tom all going close. Colt continued to push as well and we rode our luck a little. That said Ethan, Alex and Rico remained very disciplined at the back and prevented any clear cut chances for the Jags. h/t 0-0 No change for the 2nd half and the game continued at the same tempo. Chances came and went for both teams with Colt having the better of possession once more. CJ worked wonders in goal with some first class goalkeeping. His kicking, diving, closing down and aerial work was outstanding on occasions. Colt seemed to get a little disillusioned after 5 mins and we broke through midfield with Alex and Joe linking up well. Ben picked up the loose ball and his attempted effort fell to Tom who smashed it home from the left hand corner of the box – great goal. We continued to give as good as we got with both Ben and Joe having good chances to extend the lead, however a little bit of composure was missing when needed. Colt battled on and came close on several occasions, again the defensive paring of Ethan and Rico with some help from Alex got in the way when needed. Joe once again worked hard down the right with CJ continuing to impress in goal. Despite some late pressure from Colt we held on for what was a fantastic victory against a big and strong side who sit 3rd in the table. Afterwards their manager commented on our shape and always having players in the right place at the right time. He also rated CJ as the best keeper they have come up against all season. f/t 0-1 Man of the Match – CJ. What versatility, left midfield to goalkeeper without a hitch … great work CJ !!! Bring on Stalham. Sunday
24th January 2010 I know, its been a while since pen was put to paper, wrapped up with too many other things im afraid !! Today inspired me into a write up … never I have seen this level of commitment from everyone who took part. Cromer started the season slowly, however recruitment has brought in some good players and they looked a different side to the one we beat 9-1 at home. Their number 8 stood out for me, a real handful on the left. Cromer edged possession early on and they took deserved lead, scrappy goal with no size 4 through it in the box, its only a bag of air boys. We equalised shortly afterwards with Ben chasing a lost ball, great stuff. We then slipped behind again after conceding a penalty, couldn't argue as our ref called it. Ben once again came up trumps with a neat finish after some good link up play between himself and Brad. h/t 2-2. Oranges did the job as we certainly started the second half stronger. It was disappointing to then concede another, however a clear handball by the big Cromer defender handed us a chance which Benny duly tapped away (from the rebound) to take us all square. The pace of the game was terrific with end to end stuff and chances galore. Jack kept us in the game on a couple of occasions before we nudged ahead to take the lead for the first time in the game. As much as we tried to hang on in there we failed to keep it out after another failure to clear in our own half. The last few minutes of the game produced further chances, however both teams failed to slot one away. Alan was rightly proud of his Cromer side who turned in cracking performance. Game of the season so far without doubt. f/t 4-4 |
